Exeter Pride parade showcases 'vibrant and diverse city'

The fourth Exeter Pride took place on Saturday with a 50m-long rainbow flag the centrepiece of a parade that meandered through the city centre.

As reported by the BBC, firefighters and police joined the parade, which wound its way through the High Street to the Exeter Phoenix arts venue.?

Organisers say the weekend event provides the chance to show pride for the city and for the city to show its appreciation for the contribution the gay community makes.

Chairman of the Exeter Pride committee, Alan Quick, told the BBC: ?Exeter Pride is a celebration of our lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities.

?It is about us having pride in our contributions to a vibrant and diverse city, and the city having pride in us.?

Saturday?s parade kicked off a weekend of free events, which culminates in a candlelit vigil on Sunday afternoon.
