MO? Cowbell Half Marathon route, date set
The 13.1 mile route was recently locked-in and a 5K run has been added to the second annual MO? Cowbell Half Marathon. the event is scheduled for Oct. 7 in St. Charles.
The event is organized by Partners for Progress (PfP) in cooperation with Big River Running Company.
Runner registration is $75 and includes race shirts, individual finisher medals, a souvenir cowbell, post-race band, live up-to-the-second finisher results, and two in-race split times provided by Big River Race Management. there will also be a Health & Fitness ExMO? at packet pick-up to be held at Lindenwood University.

St. Peters plans trip to air show
The city of St. Peters plans a trip to Illinois on Sept. 15. the bus will leave from the parking lot on the west side of St. Peters City Hall at 8:45 a.m. and will return at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Participants will first attend the bi-annual Scott Air Force Base Air show. the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will perform. Participants will be allowed to examine aircraft close-up, visit with pilots and even tour the inside of some of the aircraft. Lunch will not be provided; however, there will be food available for purchase. Participants may bring a folding chair to watch the show.
After the air show, participants will stop at Eckert?s Country Store for fall apple shopping and a treat at the ice cream stand. the tour will end with a visit to Cahokia Mounds.
The cost for this trip is $40 and includes transportation, admissions, tour guide and gratuities.

Art Uncorked to take place Sept. 15
Tickets are now available for the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation?s 4th Annual Art Uncorked: An Evening of Grape Expectations. the event will take place Sept. 15 at Kathryn Linnemann Library, 2323 Elm St. in St. Charles. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for VIP ticket holders and 7 p.m. for non-VIP ticket holders.
The evening highlights the works of area artists and pairs wine tastings from Yellow Farmhouse Vineyards & Winery, Rolling Meadows Vineyards and other wineries with foods from Quintessential Catering, Kym?s Confections, RT Weilers and more. also, Exit 6 Brewery and O?Fallon Brewery will share samples of their brews.

German-themed trip planned
The City of St. Peters plans a trip Sept. 20 for a tour full of smash, schnitzel and s?more. the bus will leave from the parking lot on the west side of St. Peters City Hall at 8:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Participants will stop at the site of Bussen Quarries, Inc., one of the largest crushed stone producers in the Midwest. Mark Bussen will drive through the quarries, barge terminal and some of the 140,000 square feet of climate controlled underground storage facilities.
The trip will continue to the Monroe County Museum in Waterloo, Ill., the Bellefontaine home and property and a meal at the Dreamland Palace in Foster Pond, Ill. Before the tour ends participants will drive through old and new Valmeyer on the way to German town of Maeystown. Maeystown is a national historic register town which features a restored historic mill, bridge, church and inns.
The tour costs $75 and includes transportation, admissions, lunch, tour guide and gratuities.

Plein Air art class coming this fall
Plein Air, the French term meaning ?in the open air?; involves painting on location to capture the light and shadow of the subject before one?s eyes, often in a fleeting moment.
Linda S. Wilmes, a painter of ?the truth?, plans to share her knowledge, through her paintings and art classes, beginning in the fall at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd., and also at her studio and gallery in Wentzville, 1151 Hancock Road.
Students will have access to a variety of art classes. A free acrylic painting demonstration will be given by Wilmes from 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at the St. Peters Arts Centre. Classes will begin in September at the Cultural Arts Centre and her Wentzville studio.
Wilmes has applied her painting in Plein Air knowledge to all forms of artistic media, for which she is accomplished and has won numerous awards. Her work can be seen at Framations, 218 N. Main St. in St. Charles, at her home-based studio and gallery, and at lindawilmesart.com.

Sixth annual block party event coming soon
Global Spectrum, managers of the Saint Charles Convention Center, will host the sixth annual Kids Block Party and Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Saint Charles Convention Center, 1 Convention Center Plaza. Event is free and open to the public, and is geared towards healthy and active lifestyles for children, ages 3?11.
The indoor and outdoor event will feature a variety of activities and trucks for children to interact with, including a fire truck, a crane, an armored tactical vehicle, a gymnastics bus and more.
The Kids Block Party will feature a variety of inflatable activities including, a duel slide, a seven element obstacle course, and two bounce houses.

Rec-Plex getting ready for State Wars
The St. Peters Rec-Plex, 5200 Mexico Road, will begin turning its three ice rinks into inline skating rinks to prepare for thousands of roller hockey players from throughout the United States and Canada. State Wars 8 will host the United States Roller Hockey Championships at the Rec-Plex from Aug. 1-12.
State Wars organizers report that 280 teams representing 30 different states and Canadian provinces have registered for State Wars 8 in St. Peters.
Admission is free and open to the public.
All three ice rinks will be unavailable for public skating. They will open to the public Aug. 27.

Brewfest takes place for second year
The Wentzville Rotary will host its 2nd Annual Wentzville Rotary Brewfest from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Wentzville Community Club. the event is a beer tasting and charity fundraiser.
There will be participation from O?Fallon, Exit 6, Trailhead, Augusta, Schlafly, Krey Distributing and Glazer?s Distributors. Live music by Rocky & Michelle Rowe will take place, and food will be available for purchase.

Pop culture is focus of camp
The St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre is offering a popular culture camp for children ages 4 and up from Aug. 6-10 at City Hall.
In Pop Art Drawing & Painting, participants will learn to take pictures from the popular culture of their time and re-create them into a new abstract expressionist piece of art. Examples are often seen in advertising products, product labels and comic books.
Art Experience Camps will include a preschool camp for ages 4-5 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at a cost of $37 for St. Peters residents and $42 for non-residents; a half-day camp for kids ages 6-9 from 9 a.m.-noon at a cost of $65 for St. Peters residents and $75 for non-residents; and a full-day camp for kids ages 6-9 and 10 and older, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at a cost of $110 for St. Peters residents and $120 for non-residents.

Foreshortening class offered at St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre
Jerry Thomas will offer a class, Foreshortening the Human Figure, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 7-28, at City Hall, 1 St. Peters Centre Blvd.
Foreshortening is a way to accurately depict an object in correct perspective as the eyes see it. In this class, Thomas will help participants learn this technique using basic anatomy, axis lines, stopped lines, overlaps or shapes, and positive and negative space.

Book fair is in its 25th year
The annual Friends of the St. Charles City-County Library summer book fair will take place Aug. 3-5 at the St. Charles Convention Center, 1 Convention Center Plaza. the book sale, now in its 25th year, is one of the largest book fairs in the St. Louis region offering more than a quarter million books and other materials for sale over the three-day event.
The hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Aug. 3; 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 4; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 5. there will be a $10 admission fee on Aug. 3 for those 13 and older. Admission is free on Aug. 4 and 5. Parking is free.
Customers can browse through items including hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, CDs, records, magazines and more. all books are sorted into popular categories making it easier to find the items you prefer. the price of children and teen books are 25 cents each. the majority of other sale items are offered at prices ranging from 50 cents to $2. there is special pricing for sets, special collections, music, movies and books on tape.
Customers should bring their own bags, boxes and containers. Reusable shopping totes may be purchased for $2. Standard size grocery bags will be provided Aug. 5 for the $5 bag sale.

Still life art show, competition coming in August
The St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre is hosting ?At the Table,? a still life art show and competition to be held from Aug. 19?Oct. 8. the show is open to both amateur and professional artists.
Prizes will be awarded in the adult categories of drawing/painting, photography, and miscellaneous/sculpture. Youth prizes will be also be awarded for ages K-5, middle school and high school.
The cost to enter up to four pieces is $15 for Centre members and up to three pieces is $20 for non-members. Youth entry fee is $5 per piece. the artwork needs to be turned in from 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Aug. 14. the awards reception will take place from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 19.

Two trips planned this fall
The Dardenne Prairie Parks and Recreation will host two trips this fall.
The first one is a Lock & Dam Cruise scheduled for Oct. 20. Cost is $84 and includes transportation via a deluxe Mid-American Motorcoach, the cruise which includes a buffet lunch, taxes and gratuities.
Full payment is due by Sept. 15.
The next trip is to Josephine?s Tea Room on Dec. 5. Cost is $57 and includes transportation via a deluxe Mid-American Motorcoach, lunch and shopping at Josephine?s, taxes and gratuities.

Homestead open for re-enactments, demonstrations
The 1830?s homestead at Towne Park, 100 Towne Park Drive, off Highway 61 near Wentzville, will be open to the public Aug. 25 for scheduled re-enactments and demonstrations.
Participants will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and learn about some of the things soldiers had to eat to stay alive. From 11 a.m.?3 p.m., Layne Chartrand, historian and professor of history, will lead ?Feeding the Civil War Soldier? at Towne Park. This program focuses on the food that fueled the armies of the North and South with performances by several members of the 11th Mississippi, Company G, Lamar Rifles and Civil War Living Historians.

August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area and Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center, 2360 Highway D in Defiance, have various activities planned throughout August.

The shooting range events include Basic Bowhunting from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 1 for ages 11 and up*; Explore Bowhunting Day Camp from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 7-9 for ages 11-15; Basic Handgun from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 15 and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 18 for ages 15 and up; Discover Hunting: Wingshooting from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 18 for ages 14 and up; Discover Hunting: Dove Clinic from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 23 for ages 11 and up*; and Duck Hunting 101 from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 29 for ages 11 and up*.

Patt Holt Singers celebrate 40 years
The Patt Holt Singers will celebrate their 40th anniversary. They are hosting an Aug. 3 show in Lindenwood?s Cultural Arts Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.
A dinner will take place Aug. 4 at the Columns Banquet Center in St. Charles for alumni, family and friends. Cost is $35 and reservations are required.

Tour of Route 66 in Illinois slated
The city of St. Peters will offer a tour of one of the remaining surviving stretches of historic Route 66. the tour, scheduled for Aug. 7, will follow the road from Staunton, Ill., to Litchfield, Ill.
The tour also will visit Carlinville, Ill., home of one of the largest selection of Sears Roebuck homes.
Other stops will include one at Henry?s Rabbit Ranch to view a collection of Route 66 artifacts, real rabbits and Volkswagen Rabbits; a stroll through hundreds of classic cars, some dating back to 1910 at Country Classic Cars; and a visit to the Mother Jones Monument in Mount Olive to learn of her efforts on behalf of the miners in the 20th century.
Lunch will be served at the Carlinville Methodist Church. Author Laurie Flori, who has written about the Sears Roebuck houses, will take tourists on a driving tour of the houses.

Sports, fitness classes planned
St. Peters Rec-Plex is offering three-week classes in various activities this summer. Classes take place on Wednesdays at the Rec-Plex, 5200 Mexico Road, beginning Aug. 8.
Programs include group fitness classes, ice skating, hockey, swimming, aqua aerobics, diving, youth T-ball and baseball, and adult softball leagues. the Rec-Plex also offers personal training sessions year-round.
A new fitness class combines work in the water and on land for a complete, full-body workout. the cross-training performance class will build strength with a dry-land workout, then use the resistance of the water in the pool to work on endurance and cardio stamina. It is a three-week class.
Other fitness classes are available for people of all ages and abilities. Family fitness class offerings can accommodate children as young as 18 months. Parents may participate with their kids in many of the classes. the Rec-Plex offers 50-plus fitness classes tailored specifically for seniors.
Other classes include a Russian-style kettlebell class for a complete workout, cycling, belly dancing and fencing.
