Our environmental future doesn?t look good, and society maintaining the status quo won?t help matters, says author James Howard Kunstler.?The Green Girl Minute?s Ginna Kelly recently sat down with Kunstler to discuss the environment and how we can halt its destruction.?Watch Kunstler talk about his book, Too Much Magic: Wishful Thinking, Technology, and the Fate of the Nation, and why we will soon be faced with a grim environmental reality:

Kunstler explains that the time for magical thinking and hoping for miracles is over; we should instead be preparing for what?s ahead.
?We are kind of waiting for Santa Clause to deliver a set of rescue remedies for us, so we can continue to run Walt Disney World, and Walmart and suburbia by other mean,? Kunstler said. ?The trouble is, that?s not likely happen. We really have to make other arrangements for everyday life but we don?t want to think about that. That?s the problem.?

?There?s so much wishful thinking going on, especially among groups of people who ought to know better? ? including ?scientists, policymakers, professionals, academics, and others, Kunstler added.
So, is there anything we can do to reduce consumption and work toward a more sustainable path?
?There aren?t any ways we are going to contrive to do that,? Kunstler said. ?Rather, reality has?mandates?of its own and will have its way with us and we?ll be dragged kicking and screaming into a new disposition of the things.?
